book meme - 12/11/2008, 08:20

(As seen in PlanetaLinux MX)
1. Grab the nearest book.
2. Open it to page 56.
3. Find the fifth sentence.
4. Post the text of the sentence in your journal along with these instructions.
5. Don't dig for your favorite book, the cool book, or the intellectual one: pick the CLOSEST.

"¿A qué hora se desayuna? | När äter man frukost här? | Ner éter man frukóst jér?" - Métodos Robertson, "¿Quiere ud. saber Sueco en 10 días?"

(parrot-style learning book, but useful for picking up some vocabulary and abstracting the grammar rules if one has the basics..)

The second closest:

"Nuestra conversación escapó a los límites de una charla literaria: Suecia había recibido a miles de refugiados y su democracia estaba entre dos juegos; no le interesaba al capitalismo duro, ni al comunismo conservador." - Cristina Peri Rossi, "El pulso del mundo".

"Our conversation escaped the limits of literature: Sweden had received thousands of refugees and its democracy was situated between two parties; hard capitalism wasn't interested, neither was conservative communism." - Cristina Peri Rossi, "The world's pulse". (unlikely to have been translated, sadly :( )

Funny coincidence. Cristina Peri Rossi only talks about Sweden in about 2 of all the articles contained in that book..

(I currently have only about 4 books :P)
